What Is A Naturalist?

"My favorite hobby is birds and cats. I have five birds, one cat, and six kittens. About twenty birds come by every morning to be fed. About ten cats come for milk. Also one pregnant cat. This morning about fifty birds came. One day I hope one hundred birds come." - Renee DiCicco, age 8

The Renee DiCicco Foundation was created to honor the memory of Renee Nicole DiCicco and to educate the public about the beliefs that she held.

Renee DiCicco was born on July 10, 1977. Renee took an early interest in nature and animals. At age 7, she informed her father that she wanted to be a zoologist. She spent the rest of her life pursuing this dream.

During her high school education at Von Stueben High School in Chicago, Illinois, she participated in the Brookfield Zoo Mentor Program. After high school, Renee continued her education at the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. During this time, she worked with the Touch of Nature Environmental Center, educating children about the plants, animals, rivers and lakes in the Carbondale area. In December of 1999, Renee graduated with honors with her Zoology degree.

Renee's life was tragically cut short on June 10, 2000. The Renee DiCicco Foundation was created to celebrate Renee's life and to carry on her dream of educating others about the world we live in.

The Renee DiCicco Foundation will allow Renee's memory to live on by continuing the work that she believed in.
